pixel
Pixel was born almost spontaneously from the meeting of the three musicians involved, who currently share some of the artistic projects of saxophone player and composer Francesco Cafiso. The three artists have an intense feeling, enhanced by a synthesis of language that does not want to pose expressive obstacles, but which at the same time has its roots in the great tradition of jazz piano trio, swing and blues: echoes from Bud Powell, Bill Evans , Thelonious Monk and Brad Mehldau pervade the album, as if they were elements of a texture, but this does not detract a personal stylistic code from the composer Mauro Schiavone. The pieces are always strongly characterized and overall they give a kaleidoscopic nature to the whole work. There is no shortage of dedications: an explicit homage to the pianist Herbie Nichols and a performance of the splendid “Isfahan” by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.
